The high request of controls by the certifying corporations to the oil companies, regarding the non destructive structural controls to be affected on pipelines, gas-lines and in general on buried or not buried submerged metal structures which are positioned even in marine depth, brought us to invent a new industrial device called NDT underwater unit (IDROTEC Patent Pending) which is basically a ROV (Remote Operated Vehicle) equipped with different types of probes and systems in order to increase the abilities of the system.
Nowadays it is possible to make
non-destructive tests on submerged
structures according to different
technologies that one of them is
(ROV) that uses submarine means.
The ROV has been used for the last 30
years all over the world by different
organization to get access to underwater
locations not easily accessible by Divers
or by other means. Historically the ROV
could be called a remotely controlled Camera
and tooling platform.
Main features of our NDT unit:
- It is completely automatic; therefore it does not need any
- operative 24 hours a day;
- The working depth is of about 350 m with an option of 2000 m;
- able to remove sedimentation covering the pipeline;
- can operate also on partially or completely buried pipes;
- can be adapted to any pipe diameter;
- possible to perform different tests at the same time on 360
- possible to verify on line the collected data;
- has a high speed data collecting system;
Wall Thickness Measurement
NDT unit can measure steel thickness of the pipe WITHOUT removing coating (non-magnetic materials such as gunite ,bitumen ,paint ,armour etc.). using INCOTEST system.
The system doesn’t need surface preparation – it measures through thickness of marine growth & coating up to 250 mm & corrosion up to 20mm with +0.5mm of precision and 0.2% of reproducibility.
The measurements are hardly affected by probe misalignments. A tilt of up to 30` can be tolerated.
The Pipeline leakage detection system finds leakages in submarine pipelines by detecting the fluorescence of leaking hydrocarbons or, for pipeline commissioning, by introducing fluorescent dyes. The system is extremely sensitive and capable of detecting leakages at levels as low as 1 ppm in sea water.

Whenever there is the chance to
make an internal inspection, the
probe is immerged ,using a cable ,
between the caisson and the
conductor. In this way it is possible
to know the thickness of the internal
metal part without touching the same.
